10/8/2009 Trobel Village Visit

Today Matthias and I went over to the neighbor village on the other side of this enormous valley. The roads to get down to the bottom of the valley from Grachen and up to Trobel are quite entertaining... pretty much room for one car going one way, up switchback turns... so its quite exciting just going up or down with out meeting oncoming cars but occaisionally you meet a bus. I cannot believe that people in the old days would walk up these mountains to get to their farms. Its insane. We stopped in the village of Trobel and walked around, took some photos of the traditional houses and farms. (pictures coming when I get back to Norway) We stopped to eat lunch at a bench overlooking the entire valley. At that point I think we were about 2000 meters above sea level. After that we went back to the car, and drove up to Moosalp, went for a short hike to a mountain farm and then back. When we were done we went to a restaurant in Moosalp and Matthias suggest I try some Ovomaltine, which is Ovaltine in the US. You mix the chocolate (sugar free) powder in warm milk and mix, and it is extremely good. Then we drove down the back side of the mountain to Visp, which took 45 minutes which should give you some perspective on how large this mountain is. Then we came back to Grachen, bought some stuff for dinner and he made Fondue for us. Its melted cheese and you dip the vegetables of your choice in it.. it is quite delicious. Now we are just relaxing for the rest of the night and will do it all over again tomorrow! thats all for now.
